Benbow Cottage is conveniently located towards the bottom of the High Street near to the quayside.
Recently renovated to a very high standard, Benbow Cottage was originally a public house known as The Ship Inn. Bought in 1798 by William Hardy for £600, it traded as a public house until 1967, when it was sold to become a residence, and became a Grade II listed building in 1979.
Now named after Admiral Benbow, the cottage is in The High Street, Blakeney, a mere stones throw from the quay, local shops, restaurants and pubs.
The cottage can be accessed via the front door, directly from the High Street, or via the Loke to the side of the property which is also the driveway which leads to the shared parking area (one car please as this is on a first come first served basis) to the back of the property. The door to the back of the property is a stable door and is adjacent to the small west facing patio area which is ideal for capturing the sun during the warm months.
The stable door of this period flint and brick cottage leads directly into a large sitting room which is furnished in a contemporary but cosy style with a wood burner, quality leather furniture and stripped wooden flooring. Perfectly harnassing the cosy mood is the colonial look which encompasses plantation shutters, a dash of animal print and black and white photographs. Lighting is via dimmer switches throughout the property. The kitchen is new, elegant and modern, and offers everything you would need to entertain yourselves and your guests. A key feature of the kitchen is the wood burner which is overhung by the original wood from an old boat hull offering a warm environment in which to eat and drink. The dining table is made from reclaimed pine in a refectory style.
Just off the kitchen is the hallway and the downstairs toilet which has a heated towel rail. The hallway has plenty of space for coats and wellies should you wish to come in from the High Street.
The stairs (with a rather nice ‘monkey tail’ finial) are accessed from the sitting room and lead to the first floor landing. The king size bedroom with en suite shower, the double bedroom, a twin bedroom, and bathroom with bath and walk in shower can be found on the first floor. The bedroom furniture is made of oak and the bedrooms and landing are carpeted throughout. The main bathroom and en suite shower room are floored with ship floorboards, have heated towel rails and backlit vanity mirrors with shavers sockets. Each bed is dressed with top quality linen, down pillows and duvets, and a throw to ensure additional comfort. The king size bedroom also has a wood burner.
The second floor comprises the attic which has a twin bedroom and is more suited to children given the sloping eaves and beams. The beams are made from the masts of ships and there is also an area to watch TV and DVD's. Please note that the steps into the attic are very steep and should be descended backwards. They are not suitable for young children.
Plantation shutters are fitted throughout offering privacy. As well as the ceiling lights which are on dimmer switches, there are wall lights on dimmer switches, and side table lamps, which offer low lighting under which to relax and unwind.
In addition to the wood burners, there is a new, highly efficient radiator system to keep you snug in the colder months.
